It was the 8th year after I began research to prove the fact that Dokdo is Korean territory. Dokdo, the island I actually laid my eyes on, was a truly beautiful place. Many people think of Dokdo as a small and lonely island. However, Dokdo was never a lonely island but a peaceful island surrounded by a number of black-tailed gulls that flew over the huge rock. Contrary to the image of Dokdo, the things that are happening around the island are not peaceful because our neighboring country, Japan, is groundlessly claiming that Dokdo, the territory of Korea, belongs to them.
Insisting that Dokdo is Japanese territory, Japan began to act more and more boldly. On March 30, 2011, the Japanese government authorized middle school social studies textbooks containing the claim that the Korean territory, Dokdo, belongs to Japan and permitted its use from 2012. That is not all. Japanese Liberal Democratic Party members attempted to enter Korea, exclaiming that they cannot acknowledge Dokdo as Korean territory, and were refused entry on August 1, 2011. The Japanese government repeated the absurd remarks that they cannot accept Korea’s sovereignty over Dokdo after Korea urged them to resolve the issue of sex slaves in December of the same year. How should we react to Japan that claims that Dokdo, the territory of Korea, is their territory?
There is only one way. All of us must have good knowledge of the island and clearly tell the world why Dokdo is the territory of the Republic of Korea. Especially, you, the future leaders, must understand Dokdo more than anyone else in the world.
This book was written to help you easily understand why Dokdo belongs to Korea and to have a correct conception of Dokdo as its rightful owner instead of emotionally reacting to Japan’s unreasonable claims. The book took a close look at the stories of Dokdo from ancient times to today following the history and composed them in a way that you can view the issue of Dokdo objectively and logically.
Japan’s unreasonable claim that Dokdo is Japanese territory is much more elaborate than you can imagine.
That is natural. They need a plausible logic in order to claim Dokdo, a Korean territory, as theirs. However, no matter how plausible any logic can be, it is useless when it comes to truth. Lies will not work when you know what kind of island Dokdo is and why it belongs to Korea.
Protecting and loving Dokdo and knowing why it belongs to us is what every citizen of Korea must do today and this is the duty for all of us. When you truly know Dokdo, it will no longer be lonely.
